Creative Ways To Celebrate Valentine's Day with Your Family

by Caroline Moassessi, FAACT Vice President of Community Relations

Family life is one of the most precious things we have. It is the heart of everything we do, yet busy lives can get in the way of making memories and connecting. Hit the pause button on the daily hustle to create a Valentine’s Day to remember!

To help you create a memorable Valentine’s Day for your family, we highlighted a few activities that can be adapted to your allergies and giggle levels. Surprise them with one or two of these activities. Substitute food ideas with safe ingredients for your family and modify the fun as needed!

Valentine’s Day Activities for Families

  • Create a family time capsule of love and ask each person to write down what they love and appreciate in each family member. Place the notes in a time capsule that can be buried in the yard or hidden in a closet to be opened in the future on Valentine’s Day (for example, 5 or 10 years ahead).

  • Pack the day with hearts and your love! Buy heart-shaped cookie cutters and challenge family members to use them on anything except cookies to create art or fun foods. For example, use one to outline hearts cut-out to decorate a bathroom mirror or window. Cut hearts out of cucumber slices, lunch meats, or sandwiches. Let imaginations fly and vote for the most creative use of the heart-shaped cookie cutters.

  • Enjoy Valentine’s Day by serving foods focusing on red or pink colors or food in heart shapes. Think Spaghetti and meatballs with a tomato salad and watermelon or strawberries. Arrange french fries into a heart shape and squirt ketchup in the center, or dish up a fruit salad with red apples, pomegranates, cherries, and strawberries.

  • Show your love by writing everything you love about someone on sticky notes. Place them on each person’s bedroom door so they open their door in the morning to love notes! Do you love their smile, hugs, or the way they dance? Don’t hold backthe more notes, the merrier.

  • Cook Valentine’s Day Dinner Choose a few dishes everyone can help with, such as cookie decorating, allergen-friendly pasta making, or crafting a big salad. Find age-appropriate jobs for each family member, from setting the table to making name cards or washing lettuce. The goal is to be together and create a beautiful meal to share. Spin a few tunes while you work—an impromptu dance party might take place!

  • Hold a Valentine’s Day game night! Ask each family member to write down the game they love the most on a small piece of paper and put the answers in a jar. Let the oldest family member choose the first paper to determine the first game to be played.

Your FAACT family wishes you an enchanted Valentine’s Day filled with memories, laughter, and hugs. We hope your love is felt throughout the year and always keeps your heart warm.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
